How do you use eau de toilette?

Eau de Toilette is one of the most widely used formulas in the world of perfumery, possibly second only to Eau de Parfum.

Its concentration of aromatic essence is lower, resulting in a lighter and more subtle fragrance. However, it's a mistake to think that Eau de Toilette is a second-rate product, as its characteristics make it very useful for specific purposes.

In this blog post, we'll tell you how to properly use an Eau de Toilette and what occasions it's best suited for. Let's get started! What is an Eau de Toilette perfume? If we see that a perfume has the formula 'Eau de Toilette' (EDT), it means that it has a concentration of perfume essence of 8% to 15%, with 10% being the usual average for this type of fragrance. When Comparing it to the other major formula used in perfumery, Eau de Parfum (EDP) with 16%-18% perfume essence, we see that EDT contains less, and therefore its intensity, staying power, and longevity are also more limited.

How to properly use an eau de toilette?

Here are some tips to properly use your Eau de Toilette and maximize its lasting power:

Apply to the body key

This is undoubtedly the best advice for making an EDT last on our skin, since there are certain strategic areas of our body where, due to the presence of oil, moisture, and blood circulation, the fragrance adheres more easily, increasing its duration. These areas are the décolletage, the nape of the neck, the lower back, the wrists, the inner knees and elbows, the hairline, the collarbone, and behind the ears.

Layer Perfume

Ideally, apply a first layer after showering, when your pores are open and can better absorb the scent, just before getting dressed.

Once dressed, you can spray yourself in a cloud of fragrance so that it stays.

Gently applied to our clothes. But be careful: be careful with light-colored clothing! Applying any type of perfume or fragrance to light-colored or delicate clothing (also if you apply it too close) can damage and/or stain it.

Reapply throughout the day

When using an EDT in our daily routine, we shouldn't be afraid to reapply it throughout the day. Its formula is much lighter than that of a perfume, so it's unlikely you'll overdo it. However, remember that you already have several layers of fragrance on your skin, so reapplications should be much lighter and more subtle. Ideally, you should create a fragrance cloudand walk through it to reactivate the scent of your Eau de Toilette at any time of day.

Use the Eau de Toilette's bath line

Not all EDT products have bath lines, but in some cases, you can find these types of products.

Usingscented soaps with the same fragrance as the EDT you're going to apply will help the scent adhere better to your skin.

and to make it last longer.

Why use an eau de toilette?

Although Eau de Parfum is usually a preferred option for most users, due to its longer-lasting and more intense fragrance, Eau de Toilette can be very useful in some specific cases.

Eau de Toilette is also a very suitable type of fragrance for people looking for light scents for everyday wear, or for example, for going to the gym or playing sports, as its composition is much fresher and more ethereal.

The warmer months These are also ideal times to use an Eau de Toilette, especially if we tend to sweat a lot, as this type of fragrance will refresh us throughout the day.
