Nowadays, there are all kinds of beauty products and hair care routines to maintain healthy, strong hair. One of the most popular trends, and one that is gaining increasing traction among women, is the famous Curly Girl Method, aimed primarily at curly hair.

If you've never heard of it, in this article we'll tell you everything you need to know to follow it and achieve visible results within a few days of starting the treatment. In addition, we've included a few recommended products for this type of routine that never fails.

What is the Curly Girl Method

The Curly Girl Method, also known as CGM, is a special hair care routine based on using a series of beauty products of natural origin origin, specifically designed to care for curly hair and maintain defined and well-hydrated curls.

This method originated in the book "Curly Girl: The Handbook", written by the famous stylist Lorraine Massey, where, in addition to new techniques and beauty tricks, she highlights the importance of using non-aggressive hair care products.

Specifically, the author emphasizes avoiding the use of products for Curls containing silicones, sulfates, mineral oils, waxes, dehydrating alcohols, etc., are not recommended. Likewise, the use of heat-emitting appliances such as hair dryers or straighteners is also not recommended.

What does this hair routine consist of?

  1. The first step in this hair care routine is to properly wash the hair to remove harmful compounds that accumulate in it, such as silicones. This stage is known as the "Final Wash" and the success of the rest of the hair treatment will depend on it. To perform an effective Final Wash, you need to use a shampoo with sulfates and free of silicones. It is recommended to repeat this step 2-3 times. Sulfate shampoo is only used in the Final Wash stage of the treatment. From this point on, you should wash your hair with products that do not contain sulfates. This will result in a deeper and healthier clean. After washing your hair, you should apply a mask or conditioner to the ends to prevent the knots characteristic of curly hair. It is recommended that you use your hands to help apply this product, although you can also use a wide-tooth comb. Once you've applied the mask or conditioner, massaging it into your hair, you should leave it on for approximately 10-15 minutes. At this point, we recommend covering your head with a shower cap or plastic bag to increase the heat and achieve better results. After this time, rinse your hair thoroughly, preferably with cool or lukewarm water. The next step in this method is to use special products on wet, curly hair. First, apply a leave-in product, such as a cream, to prevent frizz, and then a styling product to maintain definition. Distribute them evenly throughout your hair and shape your curls using the scrunching technique. Once you've applied these products, wait for your hair to air dry or use a diffuser on the cool setting. At night, tie your hair up on top of your head when you go to sleep or wear a nightcap. The main purpose of this is to reduce frizz. During the day, keep your hair constantly moisturized with a little water, either using your hands or a spray bottle. It is recommended to use mineral-free water.
    1. Finally, apply a hair mask at least once a week, leaving it on for 20-30 minutes. This will add shine and softness to your curls.
