Yves Saint Laurent builds some of the most recognisable fragrances in the world. Mon Paris, Black Opium, L'Homme — they're on department store counters everywhere, and for good reason. The compositions are sharp and the quality is consistent. The prices, however, are not exactly accessible for everyday wear.
At divain, we make fragrance alternatives to the originals — same olfactory territory, made in Spain, from £10.99 for 100ml. Here are the YSL dupes that are worth your attention.
YSL women's alternatives
divain.104 — the YSL Mon Paris alternative
Mon Paris is one of YSL's most consistently popular women's releases — a fruity floral that manages to feel both youthful and polished. Lychee and peony do most of the work upfront, with rose and jasmine carrying the heart, and the patchouli-vetiver base stopping it from going too sweet.
divain.104 follows the same arc. Amalfi lemon and lychee open things up with energy; pink berries add a spicy lift; the heart is peony, jasmine, rose, and freesia — lush without being heavy. Vetiver and patchouli anchor the base. It's a fragrance with real projection and longevity, suited to evenings and occasions rather than the office. High intensity, long-lasting.
divain.1068 — the YSL Libre alternative
Libre launched in 2019 and became a genuine bestseller on the strength of its lavender-orange blossom-vanilla formula. It's warmer and more enveloping than you'd expect from the name, with a gourmand depth that makes it wearable well into the colder months.
divain.1068 covers the same ground. French lavender and mandarin open cleanly, giving way to a heart of orange blossom, jasmine sambac, and orchid. The base is Madagascar vanilla and tonka bean with vetiver and ambergris underneath — warm and long-lasting, with slightly more presence than the original. An Oriental Fougère for autumn and winter evenings.
YSL men's alternatives
divain.032 — the YSL L'Homme alternative
L'Homme has been one of the benchmark men's fragrances since its launch in 2006. Ginger and bergamot on top, white pepper and basil in the heart, vetiver and tonka bean in the base — it's clean, versatile, and gets worn as a daily driver by a lot of men for good reason.
divain.032 is a Woody Fougère that works in the same register. The opening brings ginger, bergamot, and lemon with a sharp freshness; violet leaves and basil carry the heart with a subtle green quality; tonka bean, Tahitian vetiver, and cedar provide a smooth, dependable base. Moderate intensity, works well for daytime and the office. Reliable longevity.
divain.034 — the YSL La Nuit de L'Homme alternative
La Nuit de L'Homme takes the L'Homme formula and turns up the richness. Cardamom leads instead of ginger; the base shifts toward cedar and vetiver with a tonka sweetness; the overall effect is darker and more suited to evenings. It's widely considered one of the better men's fragrances of the 2000s and still holds up well.
divain.034 is an Oriental Spicy fragrance that covers the same territory. Cardamom opens boldly and cleanly; bergamot and lavender move through the heart; the base brings earthy vetiver, caraway, and tonka bean for a warm, complex finish. Moderate to high intensity, built for winter nights. It develops well on skin over a few hours.
