How to care for the environment - Small actions that change everything

The Earth is our home, and we must care for and preserve it so that it remains so.This important task cannot be the responsibility of just a few; we must all collaborate and contribute our bit as much as possible. And we say as much as possible because it's clear that not everyone can perform incredible actions that have an immediate and tremendous impact. But what we can do is commit to adopting a series of small habits that, little by little, will end up changing the world.

Because, as we know,a small gesture doesn't do much, but many small gestures become the engine of change and end up generating a great impact.

At divainwe are part of this change and we want to encourage you to join us, so today we present a series of key points so you know how to care for the environment in your daily life.

Recycle

We couldn't start without mentioning the most basic and essential action of all: recycling. And we say it's the most basic and essential because thanks to it, we give a second life to the planet's resources, which are not just limited, they're extremely limited! There are no excuses for not recycling. There are more and more recycling bins in cities and towns, and we can all find space at home to put two or three bags for different types of waste. But… are you clear on how to separate them?

  • In the eye-catching yellow containeryou have to put all plastic containers, cans, bricks, and aluminum foil. This is one of the biggest mistakes, since it's usually thrown in the organic waste container but it should go in the plastics container. Just make sure it doesn't contain any food scraps.
  • The light green igloo-shaped container is for all types of glass containers. In other words, this is where you should throw away your Divain bottles once the perfume is finished.
  • In the blue containerpaperand cardboard packaging (like the box we sent your Divain to your home in and the one the bottle came in). Yes).
  • And finally, the dilemma of organic remains. Here we are presented with two scenarios. If you have brown bins in your neighborhood (we say "if" because they are relatively new), you should put all organic waste that can be composted in them (vegetable and fruit scraps, cooked meat, fish and seafood, pasta and rice, eggshells, coffee and tea grounds, tea bags, bread, toothpicks, herbs and plants, used napkins and kitchen paper, etc.); and everything else in the traditional green bin. Otherwise, all organic and inorganic waste should go in the green bin.

Goodbye plastic!

Plastic is the number one enemy of biodiversity. It is one of the materials that takes the longest to degrade, so it accumulates, harming the environment and the species that live in it.

And we're not exaggerating in the slightest: a plastic bag takes 150 years to disappear, and a bottle made of PET (the most commonly used type of plastic for packaging and textiles) can take up to 1,000 years to decompose. That's why it's so important to use as little plastic as possible, and if we must use it, to recycle or reuse it. Here are some ideas to help you reduce your plastic consumption:

Use reusable bags and utensils

No single-use plastic cups and plates, and certainly no plastic bags (we've already seen how long they take to decompose). Whenever you go shopping, bring a cloth bag or a reusable bag.. The less demand there is for plastic bags, the fewer will be manufactured, and therefore the less danger to the environment.

Furthermore, in recent years, countries adhering to International Environmental Treaties have established regulations and laws that govern the use of plastic bags and supermarkets are obligated to charge their customers for them.

Buy in bulk

This is one of the simplest gestures that most helps preserve environmental sustainability. Bring your own reusable bags to the fruit shop, your own containers to the butcher or fishmonger, an egg carton to the poultry shop… That way they won't have to use their own containers (which are usually plastic).

Don't waste water or electricity

In general, don't waste anything, but we're focusing on water and electricity because they're the most susceptible to waste. It's so easy to leave lights or electronic devices on even when we're not in the room or using them, or to forget to turn off the tap while washing dishes or showering. Who hasn't done that?

This small oversight impacts the environment more than we realize, so, you know what to do. Stop wondering how to take care of the environment and start by turning off the tap and switching off the lights.

Use LED or energy-saving light bulbs.

All light bulbs manufactured in Spain since 2012 are energy-saving. And it's not just that they are more environmentally friendly due to the energy savings derived from their use, but they also perform much better and the quality and intensity of the light is much greater. There are three types: LED, halogen, and fluorescent. although the former are the most durable and consume the least electricity by far. Although they are a little more expensive than conventional light bulbs, they are worth buying because in addition to helping the environment, you will be helping your wallet—you'll see how much your electricity bill decreases!

Avoid the car

Walking is healthy for the body, the mind, and the environment! The less we use the car, the smaller our environmental footprint We will be generating less carbon (greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere), so pollution will be lower and we will be contributing to environmental protection. We have to say goodbye to the smog that plagues large cities, not only to preserve the ecosystem, but also for the health of our lungs. If you can't walk, always try to take public transport or carpool. Delete unnecessary emails from your inbox. What? What does this have to do with anything? A lot! As surprising as it may seem, emails consume CO2 because sending and storing them requires energy to power data centers and the devices that process them. Let paper be a thing of the past. And last but not least, say goodbye to paper, or at least try to use it as little as possible: print only when necessary and on both sides, reuse old invoices as scrap paper, and switch from paper napkins to cloth ones.

These gestures, however simple and small they may be, have great power to change the world and make it a much better place. Do as we do and join the environmental protection movement #PlanetFirst!
